Lords of the Fallen update 1.5 puts a little Roguelike into the Soulslike with game modifiers CI Games and Hexworks have released Lords of the Fallen update 1.5 – Master of Fate. This free update for the Soulslike action RPG is the last in a sequence of rapid updates after a troubled initial launch, but also a new Advance Game Modifier System that can twist the game into being more of a Roguelike, even. This is the culmination of 30 updates since Lords of the Fallen launched in October last year, with CI Games working to bring significant stability, performance and balance improvements to the game. There have also been new questions, including Season of the Bleak, Trial of the Three Spirits, and Way of the Bucket, new armour and weapon sets, new projectiles, new grievous strikes, and more. Master of Fate is the capstone to this post-launch support roadmap with the Advance Game Modifier System. This lets you apply any of seven modifiers, which can make the game easier, more difficult, or simply more changeable. The modifiers include randomising enemies, altering density, and even a form of permadeath, which combined will make the game rather Roguelike-y. You’ll need to have completed the game in order to access this, but there’s new achievements to chase. Hexworks Head of Studio Saul Gascon said, “We’d like to thank the many players who have embarked upon Mournstead since we launched six months ago; their belief in our vision has been a real driving force for us. In response to their support for the game, we expanded the period of live support for Lords of the Fallen with an ambitious post-launch roadmap. This was built around four significant content updates, alongside numerous smaller releases, which included tons of new content and major performance and stability improvements. Reaching Version 1.5 with the Master of Fate update and its genuinely groundbreaking modifier system marks the completion of that roadmap, making the Lords of the Fallen experience the best it’s ever been.” All of these updates should significantly improve on a game that was rather flawed at launch, while still bringing some interesting innovations, such as having two overlapping worlds that you can switch between. In our original review, Jason said, “I desperately want to like Lords of the Fallen, but it’s the first game all year that’s actively annoyed me. I love the Soulslike genre more than any other, but this game took all of the lessons it could have learned since the original Lords of the Fallen and either forgot them entirely, or just misunderstood them so greviously that you’d assume it skipped a class.” Lords oft he Fallen is out on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with 50% off on PS5 or PC for a limited time to mark the update’s launch.
