Optic Nerve T2 Hyperintensity and Atrophy May Not Always Indicate Optic Neuritis While an abnormal optic nerve MRI is almost always clinically significant, T2 hyperintensity or atrophy can be seen in conjunction with a variety of conditions, not just optic neuritis.
