This Off-Grid Escape In Bonnie Doon Is Not Your Average Tiny Home This sustainable tiny cabin in Bonnie Doon, a small Victorian town near Lake Eildon, is bringing new meaning to the iconic quote ‘how’s the serenity’ from the 1997 movie The Castle.
It’s the first prefabricated, off-grid accommodation launched by Spaces in Places, a new venture between four friends passionate about sustainable and small-format living.
But the 15-square-metre Japandi-inspired retreat is not your average cabin — it’s a place to enjoy sunrise paddles, firelit evenings, or even watch a movie under the stars.

This Inner-City Family Apartment Is Reimagining The Australian Dream Nightingale Housing was co-founded by architect Jeremy McLeod to create more socially, financially and environmentally sustainable homes built for people, not profit.
Bonnie Herring was one of the architects of the initial buildings, and in an endorsement of the project, she purchased one of their early apartments with her partner, James Senior (who later became Nightingale Housing’s partnerships manager!).
Now parents to Penelope (5), Bonnie and James’ home ‘stretches’ and relaxes to suit family life, often overlapping with their neighbours on the building’s communal rooftop, or on the open-air stairs.
