Sun Princess officially christened in Barcelona Princess Cruises has christened its newest ship, Sun Princess, at a naming ceremony at the Port of Barcelona in Spain.  

British actor Hannah Waddingham, who was named godmother of the ship earlier this month, activated the traditional champagne bottle smash against the ship’s bow by placing a final ray into a sun sculpture. 





The sun ray represents the 16th ship in the Princess Cruises’ fleet



“As much as theatre ripples through my bloodstream, I have the strongest history of maritime in my family,” said Waddingham when asked how she felt to be named as godmother to Sun Princess. “It is in my blood and in my bones so it’s a great privilege to be on this grand diva, the first of her class.”

Royal Caribbean Group reduces carbon intensity by 6.8 per cent Royal Caribbean Group has achieved a 6.8 per cent decrease in carbon intensity, reaching more than half of its double-digit carbon intensity reduction target, according to its annual Seastainability Report . 

Released on Earth Day (22 April), the report outlines a number of milestones Royal Caribbean Group has reached in its progress towards achieving net zero. This progress has been driven by its ‘SEA the Future’ initiative – Sustain our planet, Energise communities and Accelerate innovation.  

In 2023, Royal Caribbean Group (which comprises five brands ) completed successful biofuel trials onboard three Europe-based ships and completed 50 energy-efficiency retrofit projects, including steam turbine and LED lighting system upgrades. It also introduced an industry-first waste-to-energy system , onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas and Silversea Cruises’ Silver Nova.
