Upgrading from delta platinum to delta reserve after using monthly/yearly credits? Apologize if this was previously asked.

I'm not able to get any additional Amex cards, as I am already at the 5 card limit. However, I am able to upgrade from the Platinum to Reserve.

Does anyone know how credits are affected?
