Number of unemployed jobseekers rises in May The number of unemployed persons aged 15 to 74 was 9,000 higher in May 2025 compared to the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of employed people aged 15 to 74 was 19,000 lower in May 2025 than one year ago.

The trend of the employment rate among persons aged 20 to 64 was 76.4 per cent. The trend of the unemployment rate among persons aged 15 to 74 was 8.8 per cent.

In May 2025, the number of employed persons was 2,626,000 and that of unemployed persons 308,000.

There were 16,000 more employed men and 35,000 fewer employed women as in May 2024.

In May, the non-seasonally adjusted employment rate, that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 20 to 64, stood at 77.0 per cent, having been 77.8 per cent in this age group one year earlier.

The employment rate of men aged 20 to 64 grew by 0.4 percentage points to 77.5 per cent and the employment rate of women fell by 2.1 percentage points to 76.5 per cent from one year ago.

The employment rate of persons aged 20 to 69 fell by 0.7 percentage points from last year's May to 71.6 per cent.

In May, the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of persons aged 15 to 74, or the proportion of the unemployed among the labour force stood at 10.5 per cent, having been 10.2 per cent one year earlier.

The unemployment rate of men stood at 10.7 per cent, which was 0.4 percentage points less than one year before. The unemployment rate of women stood at 10.2 per cent, which was 1.1 percentage points higher than previous year.

In May, the share of the unemployed aged 15 to 24 among the labour force stood at 28.1 per cent, which was 2.2 percentage points less than one year earlier.

The trend of the unemployment rate among young people was 19.3 per cent. The share of unemployed young people aged 15 to 24 among the population in the same age group was 17.4 per cent.
