Vancouver Thai spa is celebrating 20 years in business so we tried it for ourselves As a writer, I spend a lot of time hunched over a screen, and I didn’t realize just how much tension I was carrying — until I visited Vancouver’s Sabai Thai Spa.

The spa is currently marking 20 years in business, and they’re offering special promotions and treatments to celebrate.

So, I opted for their popular 60-minute Flow Massage, and what followed was a deeply relaxing and restorative experience. Here’s how I got on.

A CALMING EXPERIENCE FROM THE GET-GO

From the second I stepped inside Sabai Thai Spa’s Coal Harbour location, everything felt designed to help me relax. The front desk staff welcomed me warmly, and even the space itself was serene with muted tones, subtle aromatherapy scents, and soft lighting. I was in heaven.

My massage therapist, Lucy, asked about my preferences and any problem areas I might have before we started. Since I don’t regularly get massages, I opted for light pressure, and since I sit at a desk all day, I said I tend to hold tension in my neck, shoulders, and upper back.

She was happy to adjust the massage in whatever way worked for me, and checked in throughout to make sure everything felt okay.

FLOW MASSAGE

The Flow Massage is a curated oil massage that blends Swedish and therapeutic techniques, and is delivered with the signature care of a Thai massage.

I learned that this particular massage is designed to soothe and restore rather than “work out” muscle tension. It stimulates circulation and lymph flow (which can boost your skin’s nourishment), encourages joint flexibility, and helps calm the nervous system.

As an added touch, I opted for an aromatherapy oil enhancement using eucalyptus. The scent was crisp and cooling and it added an extra sensory layer to the experience, helping it feel even more restorative.

The first thing I noticed was that my skin felt more hydrated and tighter afterwards. And mentally, I left feeling totally stress-free and at ease.

WHY MASSAGES MATTER MORE THAN YOU THINK

Sure, massages feel good — but they’re also an important part of long-term wellness. Regular massage therapy can support everything from improved circulation and mobility to reduced stress, better sleep, and mental clarity.

Whether you’re dealing with stiffness, screen fatigue (like me), or just need a moment of quiet, setting aside 60 minutes even once a month can make a real difference in how you feel day to day.
