One year out, what does a reasonable Quinn Hughes extension look like for the Canucks? July 1, 2025 was an important day for the Vancouver Canucks, and in a few different ways.   Eschewing the typical pattern of the Free Agent Frenzy, GM Patrik Allvin and Co. focused on retaining assets, not adding them. The Canucks signed Brock Boeser to a new seven-year deal mere minutes after he’d hit the…

What might be the Canucks’ next piece of business this offseason? While the bulk of the Vancouver Canucks’ offseason heavy lifting – if we can call it that – has already been done, that doesn’t mean the job of roster construction is complete. With in-season acquisitions of Filip Hronek, Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm, Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor over the past three seasons, it’s clear the…

Unique B.C. licence plates you may not know about If you’re a B.C. driver, you may be accustomed to the standard licence plate designs, which consist of blue lettering with “Beautiful British Columbia” at the top.

However, you may not be aware of some unique plate designs that you can obtain if you meet certain criteria.

If you visit ICBC’s website, you can view the available plates.

For instance, the Memorial Cross recipient plates were created to honour members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

“The Memorial Cross is a memento that was created in 1919 and is currently granted by the Government of Canada to the loved ones of Canadian Armed Forces personnel who have fallen in service to this country, or have perished as a result of their service,” notes ICBC on its website.

The plate is available if an individual is deemed an original Memorial Cross recipient by the federal government, a resident of B.C., and the registered owner, joint owner, or lessee of the vehicle for which the plate is intended.

ICBC also offers certified amateur radio operators in the province the Ham plates with assigned radio call signs.

“Ham plates make it easy to identify amateur radio operators so that they can assist with emergency communications in the event of a natural disaster,” states ICBC.

To obtain a ham plate, you need to register for it, and you must hold a valid certificate of proficiency in amateur radio issued by Industry Canada.

The plates can be installed on passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as motor homes.

Owners of collector and vintage vehicles in B.C. are also eligible for special plates to jazz up their rides. You can learn more about the registration process on ICBC’s website.

Some common B.C. plates with pizazz are personalized licence plates and the parks options, which showcase images of the white Kermode bear, the Purcell Mountains, or Porteau Cove overlooking Howe Sound.

British Columbians should also note that some changes are coming to provincial licence plates.

ICBC posted a bulletin announcing it would gradually be introducing new licence plate character configurations on some B.C. plates.

“Within several weeks, you may begin to see these legitimate new licence plate patterns on vehicles in traffic,” stated ICBC.

The changes will begin with the Porteau Cove licence plates within the next few weeks, and the regular plates as early as August 2025.

As for what tweaks drivers may notice, ICBC clarified that the new licence plate patterns may include the letters ‘U’, ‘Y’ and ‘Z’, which haven’t been used before.

Food halls and hubs are taking over Metro Vancouver — here are four to watch In case you haven’t noticed, we here at Dished love a good restaurant opening. Whether it’s one of the many Italian restaurants joining the culinary landscape, a hot new waterfront patio, or the latest concept from a renowned Vancouver chef, there have been plenty of new spots to eat in the city.

Recently, we’ve been particularly excited about a few new openings that’ve brought together multiple concepts under one roof.

From triple-threat breweries to new spots featuring one of the most recommended Vancouver cafes, here’s your list of new food halls that have opened or plan to open soon.

Like many of the folks in Vancouver, when either Nemesis or Ask for Luigi announces a new location or concept, we can’t wait. Both brands have been coming in hot with expansion news, with Nemesis announcing the first standalone Dope Bakehouse location and Ask for Luigi opening its tucked-away Cantina di Luigi earlier this year.

Now, the two will be located under the same roof at the soon-to-be-open TriCity Pavilion in Coquitlam, brought to us by Marcon in partnership with QuadReal Property Group.

While TriCity Pavilion technically doesn’t open until July 12, Nemesis softly opened its doors on June 14, while Gigi’s by Ask for Luigi started serving guests on June 24.

Address: 2968 Christmas Way, Coquitlam

IL CAPPELLO DI DOLCE AMORE

Technically, this three-in-one concept hasn’t officially opened fully, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited about it.

Il Cappello di Dolce Amore is brought to us from the powerhouse team behind Dolce Amore and The Gelato Mafia, and is their journey into the savoury world of Italian cuisine alongside legendary chef Pino Posteraro (Cioppino’s)

The first part of this concept is a walk-up, part indoor, part outdoor gelato patio where you can get all of your favourite scoops, alongside other treats like cookies, cheesecakes, and pints of gelato to take home. This part of the concept is currently up and running.

Coming later this summer, guests can expect to dine at Dolce Amore Bar and Caffetteria and Il Cappello Enoteca.

Dolce Amore Bar and Caffetteria, which Dolce Amore is calling “the true Italian experience.” Expected to open this summer, this 25-seat modern Italian caffetteria will be serving up coffee, pizza al taglio, bronze-cut fresh pasta, cocktails, aperitivi, and baked goods courtesy of pastry chef Joyce Mak (previously Cioppino’s).

Il Cappello Enoteca, on the other hand, will be Dolce Amore’s first full-service restaurant, featuring a menu rooted in traditional Italian cooking. Here, there will be an emphasis on Tuscan cuisine, as well as regional dishes from across Italy, including a variety of antipasti, risotto, piatti principali, and, of course, gelato desserts.

Threefold is a new collective brewery recently formed by Slow Hand, Boombox, and Temporal.

“Our three breweries had an opportunity to come together under one roof, sharing our knowledge, resources, and creativity to make something new, and something greater than the sum of its parts,” said Threefold. “Our goal is to champion craft and to give all three breweries a mutually beneficial space to produce, serve, and celebrate our beers.”

Slow Hand is best known for its crispy, delicious lagers. As for the other two breweries, Threefold said the Boombox team are “local hop masters pushing the boundaries of modern styles” and called the Temporal team the “masters of barrel aging,” adding that they craft complex beers from farmhouse ales to barleywines.

So, what can people expect from these three breweries? Well, great beer, of course. Additionally, you’ll be able to find some other snacks and beverages on the list.

COMING SOON

POKEY OKEY FOOD HALL

The Pokey Okey Group (behind the poke restaurant of the same name) confirmed to Dished that it is gearing up to open a vibrant new food hall in Richmond.

For starters, Pokey Okey will be making its return to Richmond after having closed its original Richmond location in early 2025.

“Fans of the original will rejoice as this revival brings back the same signature flavours and hard-working team that made it a local favourite before its closure earlier this year,” said a representative from the Pokey Okey Group.

But for folks looking for something new, they’re also in luck. A new fast-casual Japanese eatery, specializing in gyudon, called Oishinoya, will be opening alongside a whimsical Japanese cafe called Nonbiri.

Address: 6386 No. 3 Rd., Richmond
