European Union pledges EUR 5 million to Phase Three of EIF support for LDCs
The European Union (EU) has pledged EUR 5 million to the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF), providing significant support for the initiative’s third phase of activities to help least-developed countries (LDCs) harness trade for sustainable growth. Building on more than a decade of EU support totalling nearly USD 25 million, the contribution was announced on 16 September 2025 at the EIF’s High-Level Platform for LDC Partnerships at the WTO in Geneva.

WTO and FAO outline impact of cooperation in support of WTO members’ priorities
The World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held a Partnership Review Meeting in Geneva on 19 September 2025 to look into the impact of the cooperation between the two organizations. Building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed at COP28 in December 2023, the review highlighted progress across many areas, success stories and lessons learned, while setting out next steps for the partnership.

WTO opens NGO accreditation for Yaoundé Ministerial Conference
The WTO has opened the accreditation process for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) wishing to attend the 14th Ministerial Conference, which will be held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 26 to 29 March 2026.

Director-General announces appointment of new Chief Economist
Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala announced on 16 September the appointment of Robert W. Staiger as the new WTO Chief Economist and Director of the Economic Research and Statistics Division (ERSD). Mr Staiger will take up his post at the start of 2026.
